Teachers Seminar
March 2010

Europe Direct NI faciliated a one day conference for primary and post primary teachers in Armagh.

The conference including a welcome from Karen Morrison, EU Commission Belfast with presentations from The British Council on Comenius, e-Twinning and activities to support schoosl. Dolores Stinson looked at post primary opportunities through the European Studies Programme.

St Patricks Cultural Awareness Day March 2010

St Patrick's College invited neighbouring schools to join them in a "World Cutlure Day" to celebrate cultural diversity The event was officially launched by DFM Martin McGuinness, Maurice Maxwell, Head of the EU Commission and The Mayor of Dungannon& South Tyrone Borough COuncil. Europe Direct NI facilitated a workshop on EU Member States.

Balmoral Show 13 - 14 May 2010

The European Commission and Europe Direct hosted and exhibition stand at The Balmoral show.

The show is one of the largest agricultural shows for both the farming and non farming community.

The stand attrached a range of visitors and had special activities and competitions for children.

Cultural Awareness Training for Care Workers
Milton Keynes July 2010
Europe Direct NI delivered cultural awareness training to care workers in the Milton Keynes area under the fuidance of Age UK. The training covered cultural issues which impact on health and care provision.

Diversity in the Global Village Portora School, Fermanagh June 2010

Europe Direct provided a range of publications, maps and resources for the workshop on Diversity in the Global village. The workshop included 75 boys in year 8 aged 11-12 yrs. old (Year 8).  The topics included - If the world were a village of 100 people, cultural identity, Fairtrade and chocolate, cultural objects from Spain, Poland, Sri Lanka and the Philippines, and diversity in ball games.

St. Ciaráns College, Ballygawley celebrated International Languages day in September with a week of activities.Language students completed projects and participated in competitions throughout the week.

Brookeborough playgroup celebrated EU language with story telling and looking at other regions of Europe using maps and publications.

The day began with an international breakfast followed by a series of workshops for all of year 8 run by Europe Direct NI looking at the official languages of the EU, learning some Italian and playing language games.

St Georges Market Belfast

October 2010

This annual event hosts several thousand young people from Northern Ireland attended the Opportunity Europe Fair which highlights N Ireland's many European links. It included food, dance, music, language from throughout Europe with workshops and exhibitions highlighting information on working, studying, volunteering and travelling in Europe. 

Study Visit UFU to Italy November 2010

This study visit looked at regional food production and how local producers work together to promote their regional Produce aiming for zero kilomentres food for shops and restaurants. participants visit Parma ham produces, Paremegianno Regianno cheese makers asa well as beef and dairy farms.

Cultural Awareness Training

Bombarider December 2010

Bombarider, large manufacturers of regional and business aircraft received cultural awareness training from Europe Direct NI to their engineers to help them to work more effectively with colleagues and suppliers throughout Europe, Asia and internationally.
