CULTURAL AWARENESS TRAINING
Globalisation and increased labour mobility means we are all increasingly involved in living, working and socialising with people from many different cultures.
|
| Culture shapes how we communicate and behave within our cultural group and influences our expectations when communicating with others. |
Cultural awareness training provides an understanding of how culture impacts on how we act and behave and how misunderstandings can arise when we misinterpret different cultural behaviours
Misinterpretation = Misunderstanding
|
| Culture is like and iceberg, where the visible aspects of culture such as language, food, greetings, dress, music, are above the surface and easy to see. But, the biggest part of culture is hidden below the surface and includes the invisible rules and values that define a culture. |
Using theory and practical examples Cultural awareness training explores:
- Invisible/ visible aspects of culture
- Cultural onion/ cultural iceberg
- How culture influences behaviour
- Own cultural rules and behaviours
- Other Cultural rules and behaviours
- How misunderstanding can arise
