GUIDE TO TRANS-NATIONAL PARTNERSHIPS

In an effort to improve networking between groups and organisations in its Member States, the European Union has made trans-national co-operation a key element within many of its funding programmes.  Many funding programmes require the formation of trans-national partnerships between organisations in different regions of Europe in order to qualify for European funding.  Most programmes require at least three partners from different Member States.

The EU supports trans-national co-operation as it believes this is the best way of encouraging the exchange of ‘good practice’ between Member States. Joint activities harness the diversity of expertise that exists across the EU which can result in the creation of innovative actions in response to common problems.  The Commission also wishes to ensure that mechanisms are in place by which the experiences of the project can be disseminated across the European Union.
