EUROPEAN PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS The elections to select new MEPS took place on 4 June 2009, to choose the UK's 72 MEPs with three representing Northern Ireland. The three MEPS elect for N Ireland were Bairbre de Brun [SF], Jim Nicholson[UCUNF] and Diane Dodds [DUP]. These MEPs will make up the 736 MEPs of the European Parliament. |

NEW HEAD OF COMMISSION - BELFAST Maurice Maxwell, new head of the European Commission Office in Northern Ireland has taken up his position on 1 September 2008. Maurice is a graduate in economics from Queen's University Belfast and a qualified chartered accountant. He joined the European Commission in 1983 and has had a varied career in research and development policy, small business policy and resource management. His most recent posting was as European Commission Representative to New Zealand from 2004 to 2007. |
